Paediatric Otolaryngologist ENT Head and Neck Consultant

Overview

Dr Richard Hewitt was appointed a Paediatric Otolaryngologist Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Head and Neck Consultant at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) in 2012. In 2017, he was recipient of the GOSH Surgical Consultant of the Year Award. 

Dr Hewitt qualified from Guys’ and St. Thomas’ Medical School, London and Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA. He completed his basic surgical training in London and entered specialty training in ENT, completing the six-year programme in the North Thames Region. He undertook a Fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and Medical Centre, Ohio, under the instruction of Dr Robin Cotton (one of the most eminent experts in the field of paediatric ENT) and the Memorial Sloane Kettering Hospital, New York under the instruction of  Professor Jatin Shah. 

His practice encompasses all types of ENT problems in children, and their surgical and non-surgical treatment options. These include common conditions such as tonsil and adenoid problems – recurrent tonsillitis, obstructive sleep apnoea, blocked nose and snoring, hearing problems, recurrent ear infections and ‘glue ear’.

• Trained at London at Guys’ and St. Thomas’ Medical School (MBBS) and Harvard Medical School. 
• BSc in Clinical Anatomy during which he undertook clinical research in conjunction with Harvard Medical School on transplantation surgery 
• Basic surgical training in London 
• Specialty training in ENT on a six year programme in the North Thames region 
• DOHNS 
• FRCS (ORL-HNS)

Richard Hewitt co-directs the nationwide airway service – “The Tracheal Team”
