Celebrating our Ward Stars!

31/07/2025

At the International and Private Care directorate we have outstanding and professional staff members who give their best every day. To acknowledge the exemplary work they do, we launched a quarterly staff recognition award back in June 2024 focusing on the Caterpillar, Butterfly, Bumblebee, and Hedgehog wards.

The award sees winners being chosen in March, June, September, and December. This initiative not only celebrates the outstanding efforts and contributions of our colleagues, but also honours their dedication to their roles. Highlighting the importance of teamwork, this initiative also recognises the collective efforts of all staff members to deliver the best outcomes for our patients, an element which is among the reasons that make our hospital a world-class centre for paediatric care and innovation. Meet this quarter’s winners:

Butterfly Ward: Johanna Oh

Johanna is not only excellent at her job, but also helpful to her patients as well as her colleagues. From putting a smile on everyone’s face to being so fun to work with, she is one of the reasons her colleagues feel at ease while delivering on their duties.

‘’During our shifts together, Johanna is not only helpful, but also kind. Her humour uplifts the team morale’’

Bumblebee Ward: Maria Pullan

Maria is a lovely asset to Bumblebee ward. She is always approachable, friendly and caring. Maria ensures that her patients’ care always comes first, with an eye for striving to achieve the best possible outcomes for them. In addition, she also helps colleagues navigate their bad days.

‘’Collaboration is her motto. Working alongside other doctors and nurses on the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT), she is friendly and one to rely upon, making her an absolute superstar that we all love.’’

Hedgehog Ward: Iman Mohammed

Iman is a ward star due to being an amazing nurse, yes, but also because of her vivacious attitude and strong work ethic. It’s never a dull shift with Iman around.

‘’Iman is a joy to work with. She brings a vibrant, positive energy to the ward that lights the place up. Her enthusiasm and willingness to learn is impressive and so is her collaboration. A team player through and through.’’

Caterpillar Ward: Olatunde Ogunderu

Olatunde is friendly and helpful to his colleagues. But he is also very hardworking and goes the extra mile. He never shies away from sharing knowledge with the rest of the team and does so in a cordial manner.

‘’When you’re a new starter, you’re lucky to have Olatunde as your colleague. He always goes above and beyond to make sure his colleagues are doing well and checks in to ensure assistance is offered whenever needed.’’
